1. View the email headers. (E.g. if your email is in Yahoo, open it, click on the “…” and select “View raw message”.) Look for a line like
X-Originating-IP: [160.39.52.21].
2. Copy the IP address (in this case, 160.39.52.21).
3. Go to http://whois.arin.net/ui
Paste the IP address in the field labelled "WhoisRWS and hit Enter.
4. If the name "RIPE" appears (e.g. if the IP address is 62.171.133.194), go to step 7 below. If APNIC appears, go to step 8. Otherwise, go to step 5.
5. Search for an email address starting with abuse@. In this case, it is abuse@columbia.edu".
6. Forward the email (so all the headers are included) to that address. You are done.
7. Go to https://www.ripe.net/support/abuse. Paste the IP address in the field labelled "Enter an IP address" and hit Enter. Then forward the email to the email address given (in this case, abuse@contabo.de). You are done.

8. Go to http://wq.apnic.net/static/search.html. Paste the IP address into the “Search for” field and click on Search. Forward the email to the “Abuse contact” displayed. You are done.
